Force India’s Vijay Mallya has blamed himself for the team’s inability to score points in Sunday’s British Grand Prix. After Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil started in sixth and 11th places on the grid, the pair eventually fell back to respective finishing positions of 11th and 15th due to errors on pit strategy.
“It looked good in the beginning and I was eighth on the first set of Softs,” Sutil explained. “But then we just stopped too early and in the end we needed to do another stop, because we couldn’t make it to the end on a two-stop strategy. It was definitely possible to extend the first run a little bit longer.
“I was happier after the qualifying, which I thought was good. I had saved a set of tyres and I could really feel in the race that it was a big benefit. But we didn't really use it. There was more in the car, absolutely.”
The pit lane blunder also hampered di Resta, who was forced to sit stationary as mechanics rushed to correct a tyre mix-up.
‘Apologies to Force India fans,’ Team Principal and CEO Mallya posted via his personal Twitter account. ‘Should have had both cars finish in top ten with points but messed up completely on strategy and pits.’
