Cricketers show support for Indian GP

Cricketer Saurav Ganguly has extended his support to Force India ahead of the team’s home race at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix later this month.

The former captain of the Indian cricket team, who has now retired from all forms of the sport, was a part of the Silverstone-based outfit’s Raise The Flag campaign in Kolkata, a drive which will be spread across nine cities.
“I wish the team all the very best for the first Indian Grand Prix to be held on 30th October. I’ll be there at Delhi myself along with my daughter to support the Sahara Force India Team,” Ganguly said.

Another cricket star, Sachin Tendulkar, revealed that he was encouraged to attend the race by the boss of Formula 1 earlier this year.

"I'm really excited about this event. I was invited by Bernie Ecclestone on the last tour of England," Tendulkar was quoted on Mid Day although he did not confirm whether he would be in Delhi at the end of the month.

McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton acknowleged that cricket was the pinnacle of sport in India but believes that F1 can make its presence felt as well.

"India’s a sport-mad nation - mostly, it’s about cricket, which is understandable because they’re a very successful cricketing country, but I really think the people of India are going to take Formula 1 to their hearts," Hamilton said.
